Today, in 2026, there are an awful lot of options when launching a token. Thanks to the launcher funding craze in 2025, the competitive landscape of token launchers is oversaturated. With so many options, what makes one stand out amongst the rest of the crowd?
In this article, we are going to do an overview of the Clanker ecosystem. Clanker is a token launcher that allows users to create an ERC-20 token on a variety of blockchains, including Base, Arbitrum, BNB, and others.
Transparently, I have never used a token launcher or launched a token myself, as I don’t want any digital assets associated with DepressiveHacks, so I am learning a lot about Clanker and its ecosystem as well for the first time. I do not want to claim to be an expert, but I think there is something helpful about reading introductory material from a fellow newbie instead of having someone with advanced expertise try to simplify their knowledge in a way that makes sense when the recipient is missing so much of the context that the expert already has.
Alright, let’s get into the basics, starting with some real baseline things you should know if this article is going to make any sense to you whatsoever.
What is a Token Launcher?
I am willing to acknowledge that if you are not familiar with the world of token launchers, you probably didn’t even understand that intro, so let’s cover some things to make sure we rein you back in from being lost in the sauce.
Crypto-native assets that exist on a blockchain are called tokens. There are two main categories of tokens: fungible and non-fungible. Fungible just means how interchangeable a particular thing is. For example, the cash in your pocket is fungible. If you spend a Euro from your pocket or a Euro from your friend’s pocket, there is no difference. However, non-fungible means that each thing is unique. An example of this would come from the collectible space, where a limited-release card has only 100 copies in existence, and each copy is individually numbered to indicate its position out of the 100 total copies. In this sense, because each card has an individual identity instead of being the same as its counterparts, it makes the card non-fungible.
Alright, so now that we’ve covered that, what does that have to do with token launchers? Well, if you are going to create a fungible token, a token launcher is a way to do it. Most token launchers were created by developers with the base concept being that you don’t need to know how to code to launch your own token. If you go back a few years to when I first got into crypto, the only people creating onchain assets were developers because any non-native crypto user who wasn’t a developer couldn’t deploy the code on the blockchain to create their own token without paying a developer to do it for them.
Okay, so how does it work? In its essential form, you give the token a name and specify what blockchain you would like for it to exist on, and then you click some buttons, and it exists. It is actually stupid easy to launch a token out of a launcher…arguably too easy, but that’s a different topic for a different day.
Why Clanker?
Alright, so let’s assume that you have thought about all of the surrounding tokenomics (the economic aspects of your token) and are ready to choose a launcher because you’ve responsibly put a lot of work into planning and aren’t just mindlessly launching things (ha).
As a responsible blockchain enthusiast, you are likely weighing your options on which launcher you want to use. The areas that you are going to want to focus on include the networks that the launcher services use, how much liquidity is on the blockchain you want to launch your token on, and the support of the launcher to help with troubleshooting and post-launch support/marketing.
This is where the ecosystem aspect of Clanker comes into play. One area in which Clanker stands out is its support network. Clanker is owned by Neynar, which also owns Farcaster. Therefore, the ecosystem contains developer infrastructure/API, an onchain social network, and a launcher. This provides a distribution moat for the token, as you can create it on Clanker, get assistance using Neynar (studying other launches before doing your own launch using Neynar’s data aggregation would be a great way to do this), and then advertise the token’s existence and purpose on Farcaster to a bunch of fellow users.
In addition to using Farcaster to promote your token and its accompanying project, you can also connect with a bunch of other people who have also launched their tokens on Clanker. The ability to contact fellow human beings for support during the process of launching digital assets is huge, especially people who have the experience you will want to lean on in designing your own structure. Ask them for advice and what they would’ve done differently in their own launch. I am confident that you will gain perspective that likely wouldn’t be available to you until after you’ve made the same mistakes if you were to use a launcher with less of a community around it.
Clanker also has a grant program to help support builders and projects that exist within its ecosystem. This article, for example, was funded by a grant from the Clanker Ecosystem Fund (CEF). The CEF exists to help distribute the protocol fees that Clanker takes in as a result of people using it to launch tokens and traders swapping in and out of the tokens that came from Clanker and redistributing them to folks who help “positively contribute to the Clanker and Farcaster ecosystem,” per the CEF Farcaster account page. 20% of the funds that come in via protocol fees get allocated to fund grants that can help you to continue to build out support mechanisms for your token and project. The default mechanisms for the launch are also among some of the more respectable ones, with other options providing less fair launch mechanics. We don’t need to deep dive into fair launches in a 101 article, but you’re going to want a fair launch, trust me.
How to Get Started?
Alright, if I somehow have not scared you off yet with my own personal trauma surrounding tokens and launches and blockchain, here is a good way to end your brief introduction to Clanker: actually telling you what to do next!
DepressiveHacks is NOT launching a token, but HYPOTHETICALLY, if I were in your shoes and was looking to figure out how to do this, this is what I would do. Start by going and creating an account on Farcaster if you don’t already have one. This is great for networking in the crypto industry and the emerging technology industry, even if you weren’t looking to launch a token.
Next, visit https://clanker.world/. This is where Clanker is housed, and you can launch from here. DO NOT LAUNCH ANYTHING YET. We, as an industry, have a vast amount of historical data proving that launching assets with no real plan as to how they’re going to be sustainable just leads to the assets failing and going to zero over any decent-length time horizon. Assuming you have made it this far, you likely have good intentions of wanting to succeed and have whatever you are building become a mainstay for years to come, so you’re going to want to be meticulous in your planning in advance, as it is much more difficult to change aspects of your token after it is already live. Crypto trades 24/7, so you can’t exactly shut down the token to make changes and then reboot it.
Once you’ve familiarized yourself with the website, start looking at existing tokens within the Clanker ecosystem. Check out their trading volume, their tokenomic setups, follow the founder on Farcaster to keep up with what they’re doing and support their work, and familiarize yourself with a variety of examples that seem like the way the token functions alongside the rest of the project could potentially align with how you want to integrate your fungible assets into whatever it is that you’re building.
Farcaster is a very supportive community, so I am very confident that if you created a live outline and shared it in the proper places, you could find people to provide you with feedback before you launch and make all of the necessary adjustments to ensure as much sustainability as possible over the long run for your assets.
If you want to understand the post-launch mechanics better, load some funds into your native Farcaster wallet and grab a few examples of other Clanker ecosystem tokens. You can see how they move over time, and being a holder in other people’s projects can help to inspire ideas for things to do with your own.
You are now equipped to start doing your very first deep dive into the world of Clanker upon completing this introductory article. Be safe out there, be kind to humans and agents alike, and clank responsibly! Thanks for reading!
